It came off beautifully. We'd been planning the surprise party for Kirsten for months. We'd thought about making it for the date she leaves, but it's 1) More of a surprise this way and 2) Best to give her those free weekends in July to pack. And it was my first surprise party planning, and it was really really fun. But I wasn't allowed to talk about it here where someone reads my blog. So we did all the planning and inviting in utmost secrecy. And yesterday finalyl came. While the others got all the food and drink and music and decorations and people ready in the shmancy community room in my building, Cheryl and I had to keep Kirsten busy for the last few hours in the mall. That was hard, because Kirsten was a whiny brat and didn't understand why we didn't let her eat (even though we ourselves hadn't really eaten all day and were practically fainting from low blood sugar!) Gina did an amazing job with the food and so did TJ, Mrs Apell and Kathy. Erin's decorations were fabulous. All was well. The only real snag was when I accidentally broke Gina's brand-new bottle of raspberry vodka. Which somehow magically reappeared by the time we got to the party... It was all worth it when we finally walked into the building and veered away from the elevator and into the community room, and flipped on the lights and everyone screamed "surprise" and she was really, truly surprised. And I can tell you that she really, truly loved it, because I can always tell when she's pretending. Good. Times. |
