Sometimes I have to tell customers things they don't like and then have to listen to them whine, complain or scream or sometimes all three. Today was one of those days where I had more then a few unpleasant phone conversations. One guy cracked me up though. He said and I quote, "You are a very tough wooman. Your voice...it sounds not so tough...but you are a very tough wooman." I almost started giggling, which would have really thrown him off, as my giggle is not one bit tough but is quite silly.

Spent Sunday at the zoo with my brother and his partner. We had such a greattime. Not even the heat could drag us down. They loved the gorilla's, as I knew they would. You could watch them for hours! The zoo was not crowded so we could look at the animals without the pressure of other people trying to get you out of the way. This is the first time I have ever rode the sky tram. It was a little scary, but the view was spectaculer. After the zoo, they went back to the city to walk the dog that they are here dogsitting and to get show tickets and I went home and collapsed. They called about two hours later and said they had changed their mind about the show and wanted to come over. I gave them the instructions and they soon traveled the PATH to met me. We decided to eat out, due to the heat and I took them to Hoboken, where we wandered around and then settled for a steak house dinner. Then we walked down by the river and took in the view. Very nice day.

Yesterday, Jamie, Evie (my former charge and her mother) and I went to Brooklyn to visit her grandmother for a few minutes and then drove into the city to meet Mike and Dan for lunch at the frozen hot chocolate place. We had a great time! Evie, Jamie and the guys got along and silly stories were told and there was much laughing and eating of ice cream (not me! I just had my sandwich). Then we shopped for a bit and then said bye to Jamie and Evie.
Mike, Dan and I went down to the loft to spring the doggie. As they walked the dog I sat and stared at the giant windows and pretended the place was mine. It is such a cool place. The upper part of the loft is all lined with books, videos and CD's. It's like a shop. Then we went to dinner at an Italian place that was sheer perfection. We all shared salads and main courses and desserts. Yummy. Tavie's mom would love it and I want to plan a trip as soon as we can afford it. Lucky for me the evening was my birthday treat.

After that we went back uptown to see Hairspray. Anyone who reads this blog must run and see it as soon as possible. It was fantastic. The audience was so into it. Harvey could barely finish his line before the place exploded with laughter. The singing was incredible. I want the soundtrack NOW! Unfortunaltly, it is only in previews, so it hasn't been released. I can't recommend this enough. I want to see it again.

Then we took the subway together till I had to get off to walk to the PATH station. As we were getting close to where I had to leave my brother got very nervous and kept asking me about how safe it was for me to go off by myself. He did not seem to care that I do this all the time. Dan said in a very deadpan voice,"I think you had better phone Jan!!!" (Jan being my mother) My brother said, "I think I should!" and he meant it! He wanted to get me in trouble, like I was a little kid. I asked him what the point of that would be? She would just ask why they weren't walking me to the train and then we would all be in trouble. I assured them that I would be safe and went on my way. Lucky for me the man sitting two places away threw up all over the floor and himself. Charming, I am sure.

One of the highlights of the day? As my brother and I are standing shoulder to shoulder as we are trying to leave the restaurant a oung man was on the other side, brushing up against shoulder. My brother suddenly points his finger in the young man's face and yells, "OH MY GOD!!!! It's TIM from All My Children!" Needless to say the poor guy looked startled and kind of backed away. I started laughing my ass off. I could not believe that he had done that! Mike started cracking up too, and turned bright red. Dan walked up behind us and said, "Did that just happen??" We could hardly walk we were laughing so hard. We had to stop and call my sister (no, Tavie, not my OTHER sister) and tell her. She thought we were drunk and called me this morning to make sure we were okay and then panicked when I wasn't at work and they wouldn't tell her where I was (getting ready to take Evie, Jamie and Bill to the airport). She was a little freaked when she finally reached me on the cell phone. In my family we always assume people are dead, if we can't reach them instantly.
    Anyway, good freakin times.
