I saw The Drowsy Chaperone, a new musical currently in previews, tonight. Brilliant. BRILLIANT! It maintained a delicate balance between parody and homage, and the main character was... hmm... how do I put this: me. Actually it was a guy called Man in Chair, played by Bob Martin (who co-wrote), a musical theatre geek who holes himself up in his apartment in his cardigan with his record player and escapes from the world by listening to the original cast recording of his favourite old Broadway show.

Dude. The ending was so beautiful it almost made me cry.

And Georgia Engel is so cute!

Anyway, this show started in the back room of the Rivoli and was co-written by Bob Martin's best friend, Don McKellar.

It also had a song about a monkey on a pedestal.

It's a great show and I highly recommend it, thank you.
