Witness following exchange between my sister and myself. ("Pierre" refers to the song by Maurice Sendak and Carole King, from Really Rosie:

Subject: Pierre's problem

I think I’ve figured out the key to Pierre’s laissez-faire bravado: it lies in the line, “Good morning, darling boy/you are my only joy”..

Her ONLY joy? But she’s married with a husband AND a child. Obviously her husband brings her no joy—their marriage must be on the rocks. Could Pierre’s insistence that he doesn’t care simply be a child’s defense against the emotional trauma of a troubled home, teetering on the edge of divorce?
