Oh, god! I learned from Kitana's blog: Edward Said has died.
This is terrible. He was one of the first authors I ever had to read for any college setting, in that Symbolic Anthro class. When, shortly after 9/11, I caught my dad reading one of those weird "What are the Arabs thinking?" books, I bought him a copy of Said's Orientalism to read.
And he was only 67, which just ain't old enough, dammit. He was doing important work.
