I hadn't planned to finally get around to starting Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom when I got here, but it just worked out that way. There's something exciting about reading a novel set here, while I'm here.

I guess I hesitated so long because it's Science Fiction, and I'm wary of the genre. But I can tell from page two that I like this one. Just the idea of respect-based currency is terrifically beautiful. Plus, Disney World.

This is my twentieth year coming here. When I started, cable tv was exotic and computers had green screens. I had just learned to read and was still in picture books. There were three resorts, and one of them was that silly Disney Inn. (Yawn.)

Twenty years later, I'm reading a novel on a laptop computer in the Beach Club. Talking about reading a novel on a laptop computer in the Beach Club.
