It's midnight. It's September 5. This the day my mother was due to give birth. So it seems appropriate that this is the anniversary of the day the mothers of two of the most loving influences in my life gave birth.

Today is the birthday of my sweet San Francisco-dwelling Rynn. This is the woman who got my ass out to San Francisco for the final KITH shows in May, the Master Picker whose gentle nagging has gotten aforementioned ass in gear on more than one occasion. She's a talented science fiction writer, you know. She wrote me a story for my birthday once called "Susan", based on an Aimee Mann song of the same name. I wish I had the talent to give a gift in kind.

Today is also the birthday of one of my closest friends, the woman I consider my mentor, my Ade. This is the lady who changed my life by getting me interested in school again when I thought I'd never be anything but a dropout and possibly a mental patient. We have adventured on cities all over the continent since I was 16 years old. I wish I could be at her home in Fort Awesome, Michigan, right now. Most recently she taught me how to knit a sock, which is almost finished, I may add. The learning ever continues. She's an anthropologist, you know.

I wish I had the money to buy them lavish gifts. But hopefully they will eventually receive ill-fitting homemade socks...
