I am so glad I took a bite of this apple!  Known in Japan as Ringo-hime or "The Apple Princess", Shena Ringo is one of Japan's most popular female vocalists. ("ringo" is Japanese for "apple") While most female Japanese pop singers are known for sickeningly sweet, cutesy childlike voices, Shena pushes her vocals to the point of downright scary.   She has been compared in the West to Gwen Stefani or Cyndi Lauper. Shena Ringo is Japan's answer to Courtney Love.  Her shows are visual and bizarre, like her songs.  I discovered her at a club in 1998, right when Shena was making her debut in Japan. Now in 2002, she is about to release her third album.   I would reccomend her to any fan of female rock.
