Stephanie about to kill me dead.
Originally uploaded by Tavie
This is ma jolie Stephanie, about to leave for her cousin's wedding on Staten Island this morning. (The bride, Vicky, is all splendor in the background.) This is my favorite picture of the day, because it captures the paradoxical, hectic poise that Steph maintained throughout the day. She is also radiant in this color.

Kirsten and I followed soon behind. It was a long, long day with lots of food and drink and people and pretty dresses and happy family. I've known Vicky since - well, she was born the year Steph and Kirsten and I met, so pretty much her whole life. It was the first wedding I've been to in many years, and I spent most of it watching people dance and drinking Budweiser. (I did get pulled into the Hava Nagila, and let it happen, because Steph needed me.)

I think what I'm most proud of is the fact that Kirsten and I were the ones who zipped Vicky into her gown. Her bridesmaids and maid-of-honor were too busy getting themselves ready (Sis and I followed hours later, having the luxury of not being in the bridal party.) That's for myself. What I'm proudest of, really, is how beautiful and charming and poised my Stephanie was. Her maid-of-honor speech was absolutely the bestestestestest speech of the night.
