My friend Daniella is always masterminding some sort of project wherein she organizes her friends (many of whom are musicians) to record songs written by her other friends and then put them on a CD for one of them. (Examples are here and here.)

These are all covers of songs written by the tributees, who happen to be songwriters. I'm not a songwriter, but I was just thinking that if I had a lot of musician friends, I'd want them to make me an album of themselves covering my favourite songs, and I'd want one of those songs to definitely be One Was Johnny. I think of all the songs from Really Rosie, this one could best be covered in an interesting, "grown-up" sort of fashion.

I need to make friends with more musicians who will do this for me.

Of course, most of the songs would have to be showtunes, because most of my favourite songs are. But I think it could be quite nice to hear showtunes sung in non-showtune-y styles.

If any of you lurkers are musicians, please start conspiring behind my back. My birthday is in 10 months.
