Oh, and, this is my first night "alone", as my parents are still in London and my sister is off to San Francisco. (Andrew should be here in an hour or so.)

Let's examine how ill-equipped I am to take care of myself: I was feeling brave so I decided to try and make dinner, as my funds are low and we have food in the house. So I defrosted some chicken wings and put them in the oven, and just now as I was typing my last entry, I heard some low-level commotion coming from the kitchen and saw erratic movement reflected in the window out of the corner of my eye. My immediate thought was, "Oh my god, I put something in the oven and now the KITCHEN IS ON FIRE!!!" My heart raced and I leapt off the couch and towards the kitchen, air-raid siren screaming in my head.

I am a jerk. The commotion was coming from the dishwasher switching to rinse cycle; the movement in the window was the tree outside being whipped by the wind.

How do I get RAGING INFERNO from a dishwasher and a tree branch?

That's fucked up. My heart is still pounding.
