Surprisingly, I am really enjoying Tender Buttons (or, as I like to say it, Tender Buddons), and I'll tell you why: they read like my hypnagogic word-following. When I am between awake and asleep and the words start flowing in my brain in ways that wouldn't make sense were I awake, but I follow them with my mind to see where they go until I either wake up or fall asleep again? Gertrude Stein's poetry reads like that, and it feels really natural and wonderful. Yay, Gertrude.
